A touch of Vienna

Posted by kundiman at 05:40 PM on November 12, 2004.

Absolutely floored.

My family and I (minus my father) watched the Vienna Boys Choir live at the Aliw Theater and crikey, they were fantastic!

We actually did not have tickets prior to the performance. I called up CCP and they mentioned that tickets will be sold at the evening of the performance. We planned on buying the P1000.00 ticket albeit it was farther back. We didn't mind since we just wanted to listen to their singing live. But when we got there, the only tickets available were the P2030 and P2060 tickets. We decided in the end to buy the P2030 ones and proceeded inside.

The boys looked absolutely adorable in their sailor uniforms, which my mum told me, has not changed since she saw the group perform when she was young. The youngest I'm guessing is around 8 and the eldest around 14. They sang the classics from Haydn, Schubert, and Mozart. All three composers were apparently part of the choir in their days. Then they proceeded to stage a musical about pirates.

All of them were decked in pirate costumes. One of the little ones dressed up as a chicken, another the chef, and the littlest one as a red Captain's Log book.

Adorable!

That was the word for the night. It looked like a school presentation where they were all fidgeting and tripping on each other's costumes, plucking out the feathers of the chicken, and even stepping on the stomach of a lying pirate.

They got the crowed all roused up when they sang Singing in the Rain and even more when they sang a Filipino folk song.

I wish they would come back next year. It was a performance to remember.
